CHECKLIST FOR LETTER

CHECKLIST FOR LETTER

IN SUPPORT OF APPLICATION FOR AN IMMIGRANT VISA

Supporting documentation from the applicant's peers will be very helpful in expediting the processing of his application for an immigrant visa.  In particular, evidence of the applicant's original accomplishment, his high salary, membership in professional associations, and recognition in his field for significant accomplishments or any other evidence of the applicant's extraordinary ability you would like to include would be helpful.

To the extent possible and within the bounds of the truth, you should cover the following points in your letter about the applicant:

  1. You should write your letter on your official letterhead and address it to Bureau of Citizenship and Immigration Services (without specifying a street address). You should describe your current position and your qualifications that make you qualified to comment on the applicant's contributions to his field.  Please attach a copy of your curriculum vitae to your letter.

  2. You should describe how you know the applicant, specifying the nature and duration of your professional relationship with him.  If you have worked together, please describe the period (the beginning and end dates, by month and year) during which you worked together.

  3. Please describe the applicant's most outstanding contributions to his field.

  4. Please describe the significance of the applicant's work and the impact it has had on both his specific field and on the United States generally.

  5. Please describe the impact you believe the applicant's work will have on one or more of the following areas:

  1. the United States economy;

  2. wages or working conditions of U.S. workers;

  3. education and training programs for U.S. children or under qualified workers;

  4. health care;

  5. affordable housing for young, older or poorer U.S. residents; or

  6. the U.S. environment or the productive use of natural resources.
